General Description

3 stories • 4 bedrooms • Bodega

3 bathrooms • 2 showers (1 w/hot water)

This lovely three-story hardwood house is surrounded by tropical beauty, in the midst of a what could be called a nature park. Monkeys, coatis, and anteaters often scamper through the 2 acre grounds, while toucans and eagles glide by overhead. All this, yet only 300m from the beach!

The outstanding architectural design offers two stories of living space and an observation deck on the third level. The observation deck is the place to enjoy your morning coffee as you watch the tropical animals and birds in the surrounding tree canopy.

The house sleeps eight adults quite comfortably, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. There is an outside shower for rinsing off after the beach as well as an inside shower with hot water. Each floor has an open area to sit and enjoy the tropical trees and flowers. You'll feel the stress melt away as you listen to the peaceful sound of the stream that runs by the house.

The wonderful layout of windows and doors offer great views and all are screened to invite in the fresh ocean breeze. Water is provided by a spring-fed well: pure enough to bottle and sell! A storeroom (bodega) offers a place to keep things locked up.

You'll feel as though you are truly in touch with nature when you stay in this house!

WHAT TO DO:

...a look at the list below shows why Montezuma has become one of the "must visit" spots in Costa Rica.

NATURE PRESERVES: There are three protected Nature Preserves in the area. Cabo Blanco is the closest at only 5km from the house, and was the first Absolute Nature Preserve in the country. Here you'll see the giant electric-blue Morpho butterfly, huge iguanas, monkeys and maybe some coati mundis. At the nearby Curu Nature Preserve, you may even be lucky enough to spot a sloth!

NIGHTLIFE: Montezuma is rightly famous for its many fine restaurants, nightclubs, full moon festivals, and artisans. After a full day of fun and adventure, you'll enjoy a sumptuous dinner right on the moonlit beach. The Playa de los Artistas restaurant is not to be missed, and has even been reviewed in the New York Times. For more typical Tico fare and ambiance, try the family-style "sodas" in the small fishing village of Cabuya.

BEACHES: Stroll to the secluded, sheltered beach only 300m from your door! Or, explore the miles and miles of other beautiful sand beaches that stretch out close by.

SURFING: Nearby Malpais (7km) and Santa Teresa provide world-class waves, or you can shred on the nice left at the Los Cedros break, which is a short walk from the house.

HORSE TOURS: A half-day tour takes you along the beach to a spectacular waterfall. We recommend Armando's Horse Tours for well-trained, responsive, healthy horses: these are definitely not the sad, tired rental horses you're used to!

WATERFALLS: The area is noted for a number of scenic waterfalls. All will enchant you with rushing cascades of cool fresh water and will present breathtaking photo opportunities.

BIRDWATCHING: You are sure to add to your "Life List" during your stay at Los Almendros. Our guests often see toucans and many other rare birds from the observation deck on the third floor of the house. Organized tours with local, knowledgeable guides are also available.

DANCE/YOGA/MASSAGE: Los Almendros Dance Studio is just in front of the house on the neighboring property, and offers therapeutic dance sessions. Yoga sessions and massage therapy can also be easily arranged.

SPORTFISHING*: Half day and full day fishing trips are easily arranged in the Montezuma town center. Many tours will even guarantee your catch!

DAY TRIPS*: Take a day trip to Tortuga Island for snorkeling or diving adventures, or paddle with dolphins as you enjoy a day of kayaking in the Gulf of Nicoya. Rafting trips can also be arranged.

FARMERS MARKET: The weekly Farmer's Market in Montezuma's town square provides you with organically grown fresh produce, eggs, and cheese.

ATV TOURS/RENTALS*: An exhilarating and sporty way to explore the surrounding areas.

* Many activities can be conveniently arranged at Aventuras en Montezuma, which is centrally located in the Montezuma town center. Aventuras en Montezuma also offers internet access, phone calls, and local real estate services. They can be reached by phone at (506) 642-0050.
